William Larue Weller is the wheated bourbon of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, released each autumn by Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. The 2024 edition coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Weller brand at Buffalo Trace.
The barrels were distilled in the winter of 2012 and entered at 114 proof. They then spent 12 years and 6 months on the lower floors of a rickhouse before being bottled uncut and unfiltered at 62.9% ABV (125.8 proof). The recipe uses wheat in place of rye, alongside corn and malted barley.
The nose has new leather, a little pipe tobacco, caramel and ripe fruit. Caramel and toffee fill the palate, and the finish is long and warming with oak, caramel and fruit.
