This is a 17 year old single malt from Willowbank, a distillery on New Zealand's South Island. It is Batch 1 from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, bottled at 53.8% ABV, and it is one of 307 bottles.
The whisky has been matured in Pinot Noir casks, which give it a deeply rich character.
The nose opens with sweet black coffee and shellac, then dark fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry muffin, sour cherry and dried plum, with a hint of salty liquorice. The palate is complex, with salted cherries, coffee grounds and bitter dark chocolate. The finish is long, spicy at first, then drying and chocolatey.
