Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 45.2% in a 750ml bottle. It is made at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, from a mashbill of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley.
After its first maturation the whiskey moves into a second new charred oak barrel, which is toasted for 40 minutes and then given a brief five-second char. This brings out caramelised sugars and wood sweetness without a heavy tannic bite.
Toasted marshmallow, vanilla, dark caramel and honeyed apple mark the nose. The palate is full and sweet, with dark fruit, chocolate-covered cherries, marzipan and hazelnuts. The finish is long and creamy, with honeyed apple, dark berries and toasted oak.
