Super Seasoned Oak is the 22nd release in Woodford Reserve's Master's Collection, a series of experimental bottlings begun in 2005. Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall bottled it at 50.2% ABV (100.4 proof).
The focus is the wood. The barrels were built from American oak staves left outdoors for five to seven years, far longer than the usual seasoning, before being filled with Woodford Reserve's Kentucky straight bourbon, distilled and aged in Versailles, Kentucky.
In the glass it is amber. The nose offers caramel and vanilla with almond, cherry and cinnamon-dusted dried red apple. The palate is velvety, with vanilla and caramel lifted by orange oil, cinnamon and clove, and the finish is sweet and warming.
