Woodford Reserve Wheat Whiskey is a Kentucky whiskey bottled at 45.2% in a 75cl bottle. Its mashbill is led by wheat at 52%, with 20% malted barley, 20% corn and 8% rye, which is the reverse of the usual bourbon order of grains.
It is distilled in small batches at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles and aged in new charred American oak barrels in steam-heated, heat-cycled rackhouses.
The nose offers honey, cinnamon, toasted oak and vanilla, with baked apple, ripe pear and toasted coconut behind. The palate is silky, with butterscotch, dried fruit, cinnamon and nutmeg. The finish is gentle and warming, with sweet wheat, black pepper and a fading trace of toasted oak.
