Yamato Red Samurai is a Japanese whisky at 40% ABV, the red-labelled bottling in the Samurai line from the Yamato brand. It is a blend of malt and Yamanashi grain whisky, aged in Mizunara oak in the Kofu Basin and bottled without chill filtration.
The whisky comes from casks acquired at a large distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Toasted honeycomb, toffee and vanilla lead on the nose. The palate has rich barley sweetness, nougat and hazelnut, with a touch of Japanese oak spice, and the finish is soft and mellow.
