Yamazaki 12 Year Old is a single malt from the Yamazaki distillery of Suntory in Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture. It is Japan's first malt whisky distillery, founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, and the whisky is bottled at 43% ABV.
It was matured for 12 years in American oak, Spanish oloroso sherry casks and Japanese Mizunara oak.
The nose has peach, pineapple, grapefruit, candied orange, vanilla and clove, with a sandalwood, incense-like touch from the Mizunara. The palate is rich and smooth, with coconut, cranberry and butter, and the finish is long, sweet and spicy, with ginger, cinnamon and oak warmth.
