Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve is a single malt without an age statement from the Yamazaki Distillery in Japan, founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii. It was launched in 2014 and is bottled in a 75cl bottle at 43% ABV.
The vatting draws on American oak, Spanish sherry oak, Japanese Mizunara oak and Bordeaux wine casks, with younger Bordeaux-matured malt alongside older sherry and Mizunara components.
The nose is bright, with strawberry, cherry, ripe peach and florals over vanilla, honey and light Mizunara spice. The palate is silky, with raspberry, white peach, coconut and vanilla before cinnamon, gentle oak and incense notes. The finish is clean, with vanilla, cinnamon, sweet fruit and sandalwood.
