Yellow Bird 4 Year Old is a Tennessee sour mash whiskey, distilled and bottled in Columbia, Tennessee, at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The mash bill is 80% locally grown No. 2 dent corn, 10% rye and 10% malted barley. It spends a minimum of four years in new American oak barrels with a No. 4 char and is charcoal filtered.
The brand is named after the canaries once carried into Appalachian coal mines to warn of gas leaks, and a percentage of proceeds from every bottle goes to the National Audubon Society.
The nose offers powdered sugar, subtle oak and orange citrus. On the palate come caramel, baking spices, pipe tobacco and vanilla, followed by a lingering, slightly smoky, oaky finish.
