Glenbotal Marketplace Terms for Sellers

Last updated: 23 October 2026

These terms apply to every business that sells on Glenbotal (glenbotal.co.uk). Please read them before you list anything. By listing an item, you agree to them.

1. Who we are

Glenbotal is operated by Varando LTD, a company registered in the Republic of Cyprus (company number HE440712), registered office 11 Stratigou Papagou, Lemesos 3091, Cyprus ("we", "us"). You can reach us at info@glenbotal.co.uk.

Glenbotal is an online marketplace. We run the website, take payment from buyers and pass the money on to you. You, not us, are the seller of every item you list. The contract of sale is between you and the buyer.

2. Who can sell

2.1 Only businesses can sell on Glenbotal: companies, partnerships and registered sole traders, from any country. Private individuals cannot sell here.

2.2 You can join only by invitation from us or by applying through the application form on our website and passing our review. We decide whether to accept an application and do not have to give a reason for refusing one.

2.3 Before you can list anything you must give us, and keep up to date:

  • your legal business name, trading name, registered address, phone number and email;
  • your company or trade registration number and the register it is on;
  • your VAT number (if you have one) and your tax identification number, and the country that issued each;
  • the name of a person who represents the business, with a copy of their identity document;
  • the bank or payment account we pay you into, in your business's name;
  • a statement that you will only offer items that comply with the law (section 5).

We may check these details and ask for documents. We have to report some of them, and what you earn on Glenbotal, to the Cyprus tax authorities under the EU DAC7 rules. We keep them for as long as the law requires.

2.4 You may also give us anything that shows an item is genuine or where it comes from: certificates, receipts, expert reports, provenance records. You don't have to, but listings with this information usually sell better, and it helps if a buyer disputes the item.

3. Your listings

3.1 You write your own listings and set your own prices, in pounds sterling. You are responsible for everything in them.

3.2 Each listing must:

  • describe the item truthfully and completely, including its condition and every defect, repair, restoration or treatment you know of;
  • show real photos of the actual item;
  • state the price including any tax you charge;
  • be for an item you own, have the right to sell, and have ready to ship.

3.3 A listing must not:

  • mention where or how you acquired the item, or any other place where it is or was offered for sale, or its reference numbers there;
  • contain contact details, links or anything that invites the buyer to deal with you outside Glenbotal;
  • copy other people's photos or text without permission.

3.4 We may edit a listing's layout, category, title or photos so it fits the site, translate it, and use your listings, photos and business name to promote Glenbotal (on the site, in emails, on Google, Meta and other channels). You give us a free, worldwide licence to do this for as long as the listing is on the site and for 12 months after.

3.5 We may refuse, hide or remove any listing (section 11).

3.6 Do not cancel a sale because you sold the item elsewhere. If you list the same item somewhere else, you must remove it from Glenbotal as soon as it sells there.

4. How listings are shown

Search results and category pages are sorted by how closely an item matches the search, by the sort the buyer chooses (newest, price), and by whether the item can be delivered to the buyer's country. We do not take payment for better placement. Glenbotal also sells items in its own name, next to items from sellers. Both are shown under the same rules.

5. What you may sell

5.1 Items must be legal to sell and to send to the buyer's country. You are responsible for:

  • product safety, labelling and consumer rules that apply to the item, including any EU or UK requirement to name a responsible person for it;
  • export and import rules, customs paperwork, and any duties you agree to pay;
  • licences and permits the item needs (for example CITES papers for protected species materials, or export licences for cultural goods);
  • not selling counterfeit, stolen or looted goods, or anything that infringes another person's rights.

5.1a Rules for this shop. Alcohol may only be sold and shipped where you hold every licence the law requires, with duty and excise paid or properly accounted for, and only to buyers aged 18 or over (or the legal age in the buyer's country, if higher). You must not ship alcohol to a country where its sale or import to the buyer is not allowed. State the bottle size, strength, fill level and condition of seal and label.

5.2 We do not inspect, check or certify items. If we find or are told that an item breaks the law or these terms, we may remove it, cancel the sale and refund the buyer at your cost.

6. Selling to buyers

6.1 Most of our buyers are consumers. As a business selling to consumers you must honour their legal rights, in particular:

  • the right to cancel a distance purchase within 14 days of delivery without giving a reason, and the refund rules that go with it;
  • the legal guarantee that an item matches its description and is not faulty.

We show buyers that they are buying from a business, show your business name and address next to your listings and on their order, and tell them that you are responsible for these rights.

6.2 You must answer a buyer's question or complaint within 2 business days. We pass messages between you and the buyer through Glenbotal.

7. Orders and shipping

7.1 When a buyer pays, we email you the order and the buyer's delivery details. Use those details only to deliver that order.

7.2 You must ship within 3 business days of the order and enter the carrier and tracking number in your account (or email them to us) the same day. Ship to the address on the order only.

7.3 The buyer pays the shipping charge shown at checkout. You set your shipping prices and countries when you list.

7.4 You choose the carrier and whether to insure the parcel. The item is your responsibility until it is delivered. If it is lost or damaged on the way, you must refund the buyer or send a replacement; this does not change because you chose not to insure it.

7.5 If you do not ship in time and have not agreed a later date with the buyer through us, we may cancel the order and refund the buyer.

8. Money

8.1 Commission. We charge a commission of 15% of the total the buyer pays for the order, including shipping. There is no listing fee and no monthly fee.

8.2 Payment. Buyers pay us through our payment provider, Stripe. We collect the money on your behalf, as your agent. Once the buyer has paid us, the buyer has paid you.

8.3 When you are paid. We pay you the order total minus our commission 14 days after the order is delivered, as long as the buyer has not cancelled, asked for a refund, complained or opened a payment dispute. If they have, we hold the payment until the matter is settled. Payouts are made by Stripe to your Stripe account, or by bank transfer, in pounds sterling. Your bank's own charges for receiving money are yours.

8.4 Refunds. If a buyer is due a refund for an order (a 14-day cancellation, a faulty or wrongly described item, a lost parcel, a cancelled order), we refund the buyer and you bear the cost. If we have already paid you, we deduct the amount from your next payouts or ask you to pay it back within 14 days.

8.5 Payment disputes (chargebacks). If a buyer disputes a payment with their bank or card provider, you bear the disputed amount and the payment provider's dispute fee, unless the dispute was caused by our own mistake. Send us any evidence we ask for within 3 business days so we can contest it.

8.6 Cancellation fee. If you cancel an order, fail to ship it in time, or the sale is cancelled because the item is not as described, we charge a fee of 5% of the order value to cover processing costs and the buyer's inconvenience. This is in addition to refunding the buyer.

8.7 Taxes. Prices you set are final for the buyer. You are responsible for any VAT, sales tax or other tax on your sales and for issuing any invoice the law requires. Varando LTD is not VAT-registered and does not charge VAT on its commission. We send you a monthly statement of your sales, our commission, refunds and fees.

8.8 We may set off any amount you owe us against any amount we owe you.

9. Your account

Keep your login details secret. You are responsible for everything done through your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.

10. Data

We are responsible for the personal data of buyers who use Glenbotal. When we give you a buyer's details to deliver an order, you become responsible for that data yourself: use it only to fulfil and support that order, keep it secure, and do not use it for marketing. We handle your own details as described in our privacy policy.

11. Suspending or ending your account

11.1 We may suspend or limit your account, or hide or remove any of your listings, at any time and with immediate effect, if we think it is right to do so, for example if you break these terms, buyers complain about you, we suspect fraud or an illegal item, or the law or our payment provider requires it. We will tell you the reason when we do it, unless the law prevents us.

11.2 Either of us may end this agreement with 30 days' notice by email. We may end it immediately if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. If we end it, we will tell you why.

11.3 When the agreement ends, your listings are removed. You must still complete, refund or support orders already placed, and sections 8, 10, 12 and 14 keep applying. We pay you what is due once the holding period in section 8.3 has passed.

11.4 If you disagree with a decision, email info@glenbotal.co.uk. We will look at it and reply within 14 days.

12. Responsibility

12.1 You will repay us for any loss, claim, fine or cost (including reasonable legal costs) we suffer because of your items, your listings, your shipping or your breach of these terms or of the law.

12.2 We provide Glenbotal as it is. We do not promise that it will always be available, or any level of sales. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business or indirect loss, and our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the commission you paid us in that period. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

13. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. We will email you the change at least 15 days before it takes effect (or longer if the change needs you to adapt your business). If you do not accept a change, you may end the agreement before it takes effect.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus. The courts of Cyprus have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
