Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured is a Speyside single malt from the Aberlour Distillery, founded by James Fleming on the River Spey in 1879. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The whisky spends sixteen years in a combination of American oak ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oak Oloroso sherry butts. The bourbon wood brings orchard fruit and vanilla, while the sherry adds raisin, plum and spice.
The nose is creamy and floral, with sweet raisin, ripe plum and a spicy nuttiness. The palate is smooth, with plum, dried fruit, gentle oak and a touch of toffee. The finish is long and warming, with honeyed spice and soft cinnamon.
