Aberlour 18 Year Old Double Cask Matured is a Speyside single malt aged for eighteen years in American oak ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oak Oloroso sherry butts. It is bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle.
The distillery was founded by James Fleming in 1879. The extended sherry cask maturation adds raisin, leather and dark caramel to Aberlour's fruit and spice character.
The nose has toffee and butterscotch against ripe peach and bitter orange. On the palate, soft apricot and cream give way to blackcurrant jam, old leather and sweet oak with a touch of honey. The finish is very long, moving from crème brûlée sweetness to gentle oak.
