Amahagan World Malt Edition Peated is a Japanese blended malt from the Nagahama Distillery in Shiga, and the first peated whisky the distillery has made. It combines its own peated malt with non-peated malt whiskies from other countries, and part of the blend is matured further in bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 47% ABV in a 70cl bottle and has a light gold colour.
The nose is baked apple and ripe peach, with mint and other herbs, roasted malt, peat smoke and a touch of iodine. Grapefruit opens the palate before a fragrant, finely textured smokiness takes over. The finish brings cotton candy sweetness and the slight bitterness of wasanbon, Japanese brown sugar.
