Barrel Bonfire is the second of four limited editions in the Arran Signature Series, which sets out to show the range of spirit the distillery makes. Each expression is chosen by distillery manager Stewart Bowman, and this one explores the heavily peated side of Arran, with a peat level of 42ppm.
The whisky matured for over five years in bourbon barrels, then moved into custom quarter casks from Chicago's Koval distillery.
The nose offers smoked candied nuts, praline, oaken vanilla, orange and bonfire embers. The palate is oily malt, vanilla, cinnamon and flamed citrus over sooty smoke. Citrus, spice, peat and vanilla fudge linger in the finish.
