Ballantine's 21 Year Old is an updated bottling of this blended Scotch whisky, bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. A high proportion of the whiskies in the recipe were matured in European oak casks, which brings a nutty, dried fruit influence.
The nose combines stone fruit, marmalade and liquorice with aromatic spice and a hint of wood smoke. On the palate honey comes through with apple, juicy orange and rich hedgerow fruits, while macadamia and pecan add depth.
The finish brings dried fruits and more honey, with the wood smoke returning.
