Balmenach – 2011 Berry Bros. & Rudd (54.8%)

This is a 2011 Balmenach single malt from Speyside, bottled by Berry Bros. & Rudd at 54.8% abv. The distillery stands at the foot of the Haughs of Cromdale in the Spey Valley and was founded in the early 19th century by the McGregor family. Its house style is full-bodied, robust, herbal and savoury, with ginger, orange and pepper and a hint of smoke. The nose is savoury and grassy, followed by bright green fruit and orange. The palate is lemony, with spicy Granny Smith apples and some smokiness. The finish brings grilled lime, barley sweets and a touch of hay.
