Barrell Craft Spirits Gray Label Seagrass is a 16 year old rye whiskey made from two groups of 100% Canadian rye barrels: one with bright citrus and green apple character, the other with earthy spearmint. It is bottled at cask strength, 130.82 proof (65.41%), without water or filtration, and each bottle is individually numbered.
Three separate finishes were used: part of the first group in apricot brandy casks, part of the second in Martinique rhum agricole barrels, and a blend of both in Malmsey Madeira barrels. The three components were then married together.
The nose is savoury and exotic, with caraway, fenugreek, dill, mustard seed, rye toast and cucumber peel. The palate is oily and layered, with peanut, coconut and tea tree oil.
