Basil Hayden Golden Rye is a Kentucky rye whiskey from the Beam Suntory Small Batch Collection, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
It is a newer expression in the Basil Hayden range, made with a softer, more honeyed character than traditional rye and aimed at bourbon drinkers moving towards rye. The brand's mash bill is described as high in rye.
The nose is light, with honey, soft vanilla, citrus peel and gentle herbal spice over subtle oak. The palate brings golden honey, caramel, light rye spice and hints of orchard fruit. The finish is clean and mellow, with lingering sweetness, mild spice and a touch of toasted oak.
