- Toasted and charred secondary barrel, smoked with hickory
Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke is a Kentucky straight bourbon in a 75cl bottle, made with the same high-rye mash bill as Basil Hayden.
The smoke comes from secondary ageing. The secondary barrel is toasted and lightly charred, then hickory chips are burned and the smoke is pumped into it, giving notes of soft char and light butterscotch.
The nose is a mellow smoke with a hint of sweet vanilla. The palate has soft char and a light sweetness of butterscotch and maple, and the finish is crisp, delicate smokiness with toasted hickory wood.
