Basil Hayden Toast is a Kentucky straight bourbon at 40% ABV, in a 75cl bottle. Its mash bill replaces the usual rye grain with brown rice, which adds a hint of sweetness and a little less spice.
The bourbon is given a second maturation in a barrel that is toasted and then flash-charred. The toasting uses long, gentle heat rather than open flame. Whiskey from these barrels is blended back with bourbon that has not been toasted. The flavour is grounded in sweet vanilla, with rich roasted notes alongside.
