Benrinnes – 9 Year Old 2012 Great Drams Rare Cask Series First Fill Pedro Ximenez Finish (50cl, 48.2%)

A nine-year-old Speyside single malt from Benrinnes, distilled in 2012 and bottled from a single cask at 48.2% in a 50cl bottle. It belongs to the Great Drams Rare Cask Series. The whisky spent just over eight years in a second fill Oloroso sherry cask, then nine months in a first fill Pedro Ximenez cask, a finish meant to add spice and deep, dark winter fruit. Wormtubs at the distillery reduce contact with copper, which gives the spirit a thick, creamy mouthfeel and a rather meaty character. It is non-chill-filtered and has a natural amber colour.
