Benromach – 2012 Cask Strength Batch 01 (70cl, 60.2%)

Benromach Cask Strength Batch 01 is the 2012 edition of the Speyside distillery's cask strength bottling, released in annual batches. It is a single malt of around ten years old, bottled at 60.2% in a 70cl bottle, and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. A high proportion of the casks used were sherry casks, which give the whisky its sherried character. The nose offers vanilla pod and fruit cake with a touch of dark chocolate, then festive spice giving way to citrus and charred oak. The palate is rich with stewed fruit, spice and citrus, rounded off with toasted oak and a hint of smoke. The finish is long and full, with raisin notes and gentle smoke.
