Benromach – Sassicaia Wood Finish (70cl, 45%)

This is a limited edition Benromach single malt distilled in 2005, with an outturn of 4200 bottles. After an initial maturation, the whisky was moved into Sassicaia wine casks for a further 29 months. Sassicaia comes from the Tuscan wine region of Bolgheri. It is bottled at 45% in a 70cl bottle. The nose is fresh peat smoke with malty aromas, sweet toffee and marshmallow, and hints of cocoa powder and summer fruits. The palate starts peppery, then turns to rich cream and red berries, with a lingering smokiness.
