Beylerbeyi Gobek 3 Raki (75cl, 45%)

Beylerbeyi Gobek 3 is a Turkish raki made from grape distillate and aniseed, in a 75cl bottle at 45% vol. It is triple distilled, which the number 3 on the label refers to, and as a gobek raki it uses only the middle cut of the distillation. Beylerbeyi works in small batches using artisanal methods. Served chilled and mixed with cold water, the spirit turns cloudy, and it suits a table of meze such as feta, olives, grilled aubergine and seafood. The nose is bold with anise and soft floral notes. The palate is smooth and full bodied, with liquorice, dried herbs and a little sweetness, leading to a long, clean, warming finish.
