This is a Black & White blended Scotch whisky from 1949, carrying the warrant of appointment to H.M. The King. It was filled in a 4/5 quart bottle, an older measure of around 760ml, for the US market.
James Buchanan created the blend with W.P. Lowrie using Dalwhinnie, Clynelish and Glendullan, aiming to suit the English palate. It became the favourite in the House of Commons bar, and he renamed it after the institution. Black & White, from its monochrome packaging, became the official name in 1902.
The nose offers candied caramel with a hint of smoke. The palate is smooth and warm with earthy peat, and the long finish stays earthy, ending with hints of mushroom.
