Boann – Madeira Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey (70cl)

A single pot still Irish whiskey from Boann Distillery on the river Boyne in County Meath, in a 70cl bottle. The mash adds oats and rye to malted and unmalted barley. It was matured first in heavily charred American white oak ex-bourbon barrels from Brown-Forman in Kentucky, then moved into vintage Colheita casks from the Madeira house Justino's. Those casks held Tinta Negra, Boal and Sercial from the late 1990s and early 2000s. The nose is apple and peach over honey, toasted oak spice and a floral thread. The palate is velvety, with peaches and cream, vanilla, walnut, dried fruit cake and a mineral streak. It finishes savoury and smooth.
