Boann Single Pot Still Oloroso & PX Casks is an Irish single pot still whiskey from the independent, family-run Boann Distillery near Drogheda in the Boyne Valley. It is bottled at 47% in a 70cl bottle, with no added colour.
The mash bill combines malted and unmalted barley with oats and rye, and the whiskey is triple distilled. It matured in Oloroso sherry hogsheads and rare Pedro Ximenez solera butts.
The nose shows ripe figs, dried apricots and roasted hazelnuts, with cinnamon and caramel. The palate is full, with dates, dark plums, walnuts and black tea, lifted by white pepper. The finish is long, spicy and nutty, with nutmeg, malt toffee and toasted oak.
