Bowmore 12 Year Old is an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle, sold with an age statement rather than a brand name.
The nose is briny, with burnt grass, peat, sea salt and salted focaccia, and a sherry note that emerges with time in the glass. On the palate, fragrant smoke sits against an oily, earthy background with seaweed and some sherry; it is lean, surprisingly sweet and resiny. The finish keeps the smoke going and adds salt, pine, resin and yellow fruit such as plum or banana.
