Bowmore 18 Year Old is an Islay single malt at 43%, in a 70cl bottle. It was matured for close to two decades in American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak Oloroso sherry casks, and has a mellow mahogany colour. Sherried sweetness is balanced with Islay peat smoke.
The nose brings candied oranges, creamy caramel, butterscotch, ripe nectarines and a little menthol through delicate smoke. The palate has toasted almonds, nutmeg, fennel seeds, liquorice, dark chocolate, honeycomb, maple syrup and juicy oranges. The finish is long and warming, with wood spice and a light smokiness like a freshly rekindled fire.
