Bowmore Mariner is a 15 year old Islay single malt bottled at 43% ABV, originally aimed at the travel retail market. It was matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry seasoned casks, the sherry adding depth and sweetness while the bourbon casks keep the smoky character.
The nose has lightly spiced oak, delicate peat smoke, coal tar and candied orange peel, with faint green apple and fudge. On the palate are smoky oak, dried fruit, apple and a pinch of sea salt. The finish is lingering peat with cinnamon and white pepper.
