Les Hauts de Barville is a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Maison Brotte in the Rhône. It is made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, grown on land farmed on sustainable principles and picked by hand.
The grapes are fermented at 28°C with a three to four week maceration, then the wine is aged for 12 months, partly in French barrels, before light filtration and bottling. It suits pork, grilled meat with pepper sauce, spiced dishes and strong cheese.
In the glass it is ruby red with purple highlights. The nose shows red berries, with strawberry to the fore, plus spice, truffle, earth and herbs. The palate is elegant and powerful, with red berries and spice that linger.
