Buchanan's 12 Year is a blended Scotch whisky in a one-litre bottle at 40% ABV. It is made from about 40 different whiskies, mostly single malts, all aged for at least twelve years in former bourbon and sherry casks.
The blend is built around Dalwhinnie, the Highland distillery. Buchanan's goes back to James Buchanan, who founded his blending company in London in 1884, and it is now part of the Diageo portfolio.
The nose offers citrus peel, orange zest, floral honey and light vanilla cream. The palate is soft, with caramel, ripe orange, chocolate and gentle baking spice. The finish is medium and slightly dry, with cigar box, a little peat smoke and dried fruit.
