Cardenal Mendoza Solera Gran Reserva is a Spanish brandy from Sánchez Romate Hnos, a house founded in 1781 as a sherry producer that began making brandy a century later. The name comes from Cardinal Pedro Gonzalez de Mendoza.
It is made by the solera method, with rows of stacked casks that have previously held sherry and Pedro Ximénez, and the brandy passes through them over some 15 years before bottling.
The bouquet is rich, with roasted coffee, cherry, ripe fig and plum. The palate is fairly sweet, with toasted walnuts and hazelnuts, caramel and more coffee.
