Ragnarok is a pot-distilled rye whiskey from Catoctin Creek in Purcellville, Virginia, bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl bottle. This is the 2022 batch, the second annual collaboration with the Richmond metal band GWAR, and its label artwork matches the band's album The New Dark Ages.
The rye was aged in charred new white oak and then finished in sugar maple and cherrywood. The 2022 release was made in 1,000 cases.
Tasting notes describe bold rye spice of cinnamon, clove and black pepper over a maple-sweet wood base. The palate is full and chewy, with cherrywood warmth, dried fruit and toasted sugar, and the finish runs long with rye heat and sweet oak.
