A single cask Chichibu distilled in 2015 and released as the first of the Martial Arts Trilogy, which also includes a beer cask and a Chibidaru cask bottling. It matured in a bourbon cask, number 5262, and filled 233 bottles at 59.5% ABV, each in a 70cl bottle.
The spirit is unpeated. Six years in wood have added layers of oak-tinged flavour, while the distillery's fruity character remains clear.
The nose offers apple tarte tatin, crunchy toffee and orchard fruit, with vanilla, ginger, allspice and clove, then mango jam and pineapple. On the palate it is sweet and spicy, with ginger caramel, chocolate sauce and baked apples dusted with cinnamon, before mint notes build.
