Royal Salute 21 Year Old is a blended Scotch whisky from Chivas Brothers, made at the Strathisla distillery in Speyside and sold in a 70cl bottle. It was launched in 1953 for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and is named after the 21-gun salute fired on royal occasions.
The whisky matures for 21 years in oak casks and is bottled in a handmade porcelain decanter.
The nose has autumn flowers, sweet vanilla and dry oak, with hints of sherry and smoke. On the palate come orange marmalade, fresh pear, spice and hazelnut, then a touch of smokiness. The finish is rich, long and lingering.
