Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Cured Oak is a Bottled in Bond Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery, bottled at 50% ABV. As a Bottled in Bond whiskey it comes from a single distillery and a single season, and has spent at least four years in a bonded warehouse.
The focus is the wood. The white oak staves were air dried outdoors for 13 months, more than double the usual six, before the barrels were made. The bourbon then matured in Warehouse C, built by Taylor in 1881.
Deep amber in colour, it has a nose of apricot, lemon oil, honey and toasted oak. The palate brings stone fruit, vanilla, cedar spice, sesame, caramel and leather, and the finish is long and warming with oak and caramel sweetness.
Tasting Notes
Apricot, lemon oil, honey, toasted oak
Stone fruit, vanilla, toasty cedar spice, sesame, caramel, orange blossom, leather
Long and warming, lingering oak, caramel sweetness, gentle heat
