Batch 11 of Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. Barrel Proof is the 2022 edition of this Buffalo Trace bourbon, bottled uncut and unfiltered at 129.0 proof (64.5%). The line honours Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr., born in Kentucky in 1830. The bourbon comes from hand selected barrels of Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1, a low rye recipe, and is aged in new charred oak in century old warehouses that Taylor built. Each batch carries its own natural strength.
It pours deep mahogany amber. The nose has dark caramel, seasoned oak, toasted nuts, dried cherry and pipe tobacco over baking spice. The palate is thick and full bodied, with brown sugar, molasses, dark chocolate and vanilla, then cinnamon, leather and a peppery bite. The finish is very long and warming, closing on oak tannin, toffee and spice.
