This is Batch 13 of Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. Barrel Proof, the 2024 edition from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. It is bottled uncut and unfiltered at 63.65% ABV (127.3 proof) in a 750ml bottle.
The bourbon is drawn from hand selected barrels of Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1, a low rye recipe, and matured in new charred oak in century old warehouses built by E.H. Taylor Jr. himself.
The nose is bold, with dark caramel, cooked berries, roasted peanut, seasoned oak, dried cherry, pipe tobacco and a delicate floral note. The palate is full bodied and layered, with toffee, burnt sugar, toasty vanilla, cinnamon bark and dark chocolate alongside leather, dried oak and pepper. The finish is very long and warming, with rye spice, oak and brown sugar.
