Despite its name, This Is Not A Blend from Compass Box is a single malt Scotch whisky. It is bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill-filtered and in natural colour, as a limited edition.
It was assembled from just seven first-fill bourbon casks of whisky distilled in 2015, then spent about eight weeks in former Bowmore casks from 2002. The name nods to the famous artwork "Ceci n'est pas une pipe".
The nose is fresh and maritime, with green malt, lemon zest, vanilla, Williams pear and liquorice. The palate is oily, with tropical fruit, beeswax and a light smokiness, and the finish is long with liquorice, aniseed and salty coastal notes.
