Cult of Islay is a 33 year old blended Scotch from Murray McDavid's Mission Gold series, distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2022 at 41.5%. It combines smoky Islay malts from Bowmore and Laphroaig with single grain whisky from North British and Cameronbridge.
After maturing in bourbon and sherry casks, it was finished in a first-fill wine cask from Château Margaux.
The nose is described as black cherries, ripe blackberries and creamy vanilla with a touch of sweet peat smoke. The palate brings dense smoke, floral notes and spiced oak, and the long finish carries heather and salty sea air.
