Darkness Balmenach 9 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish (50cl, 47.8%)

A nine-year-old Speyside single malt from the Balmenach Distillery, released in the Darkness range of sherry cask finishes. It is bottled at 47.8% in a 50cl bottle. The whisky matured first in bourbon casks, then was finished in Oloroso sherry octave casks. These smaller casks speed up the exchange between spirit and wood, deepening colour, flavour and texture. It is bottled without chill filtration or added colour. The nose offers rich fruitcake, cinnamon and candied orange peel, with roasted nuts, leather and sweet malt. The palate is velvety, with dark chocolate, dried figs, toffee, nutmeg and date, and the finish is long and warming, with spiced fruit, brown sugar and a dry oak edge.
