Doc Swinson's Alter Ego is a rye whiskey finished in rum casks using the solera method, bottled at 47.5% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It began as an experiment with 5+ year old rums from Trinidad, Venezuela and Jamaica, and recently emptied bourbon casks.
The base is a blend of two MGP ryes, both 5+ years old, with 95% and 51% rye mashbills, giving about 73% rye overall. It enters the solera at 103 proof, and what is bottled comes straight from the solera.
The palate is described as light oak, drizzled caramel, fig and poached pears with cinnamon, with a hint of anise. The finish is long, with grassy cane sugar.
