This is a limited-edition blended malt from Douglas Laing's Rock Island range, released for the 2024 Chinese Lunar New Year, the Year of the Wood Dragon. It brings together malts from the islands of Islay, Jura, Arran and Orkney.
The blend was given further maturation in heavily charred "crocodile" oak casks, named for the textured surface the charring leaves. It is bottled at 54.8% ABV, without chill filtration or added colouring.
The nose combines bonfire embers, grilled pineapple and light peat smoke. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with sea salt, caramelised sugar and barbecued banana. The finish is long and warming, with smoke, brown sugar and toasted coconut.
