Edradour, Scotland's smallest traditional distillery, makes Ballechin 10 Year Old, a heavily peated Highland single malt. It departs from the distillery's usually unpeated style and was matured for ten years in a combination of cask types.
The nose has peat smoke like smouldering embers and sea air, with vanilla, orchard fruit and a medicinal hint. The palate is sweet peat first, with dark chocolate, toasted nuts and a touch of salinity. The finish is long and warming, with lingering smoke, a little spice and a dry close.
