The Journey 12 is a German single malt from Elsburn in the Harz, and the first edition of The Journey to carry a fixed age statement. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtration or added colour.
It matures entirely in first-fill casks that previously held sherry, port, Marsala and Malaga, and the whiskies from them are married for this edition. The first batch, released in 2024, was 1,000 bottles.
The nose is sweet wine and dried fruit with espresso, dark caramel, raisins and a touch of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, with dried fruit, oak, mocha and orange, then toffee and robust sherry notes. The finish recalls mandarin and dark chocolate.
