Case Study: 06 Legacy Reserve is the sixth release in Frank August's Case Study series. It is a Kentucky straight bourbon blended from nine six-barrel batches of 8, 9 and 10-year-old whiskey, drawn from three long-established Kentucky distilleries.
Barrels were chosen for the nuance, balance and continuity they could add to the blend rather than for their individual character.
The nose opens with vanilla bean, honeycomb and caramelised pear above seasoned oak, with baking spices and brown sugar. On the palate come butterscotch, dark toffee, roasted pecan and a hint of orange zest. The finish is long, with toasted sugar, charred oak and dried cherry.
