This Glen Grant spent seventy years in a single first-fill sherry butt. It was distilled on 11 June 1948 and bottled on 19 October 2018 by Gordon & MacPhail for its Private Collection. The cask gave 210 bottles at a natural cask strength of 48.6%, and at its release no older Glen Grant had been bottled. The whisky is amber, uncoloured and not chill-filtered, in a 70cl fluted bottle with a gold label and a wooden box.
The nose opens with vanilla fudge, strawberry and raspberry, developing into apricot jam, wax polish, cinnamon and candied orange peel, with gentle smoke and a little fresh mint. The palate is soft, with sherried fruit, orange peel, cardamom, dried herbs, black pepper and aniseed. The long, soft finish has burnt oak and short citrus notes.
