First-fill sherry butt
This Glen Grant was distilled on 23 October 1958 and laid down by George Urquhart in a first-fill European oak sherry butt, made to his specifications. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it on 1 November 2023, after 65 years, at a natural cask strength of 56.5%. The outturn was 376 bottles, and it is the fourth release in the Mr George Legacy series, dedicated to George Urquhart. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. Its fine smoky note recalls the small amount of peat Glen Grant used in the 1950s. The nose is led by beeswax, with molasses, cooked prunes, warm spices, old leather and a little cocoa powder. On the palate, Seville orange peel and Morello cherries give way to dried tobacco and roasted coffee beans. The finish is long and balanced, with a very light smoke.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
