This Glen Grant was distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2021 by Duncan Taylor after 30 years of maturation. It was finished in a small sherry octave for the Octave Premium range. An octave holds about an eighth of a sherry butt, so the whisky meets more wood relative to its volume. A single cask gave 85 bottles, filled at cask strength of 54.5%, non-chill-filtered and with natural colour.
The nose recalls warm, spiced fruit pastry with crumble and honey sauce, with a hint of waxy oak. The palate has plenty of sherried fruit and malty chocolate like Ovaltine, with a light leather note. The finish is long, meaty and dense, with soft spice and dried fruit.
